World Series Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51M watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership was 16.1M. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
