A person who laced treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and one adult fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on recently.

However, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he managed.

The man played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about the activities, justifiably.

"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel said items including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his concerns.

She said the defendant went on to play the "treat game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities again.

She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
